Here is a silly picture! That smoke is Mulan smoke. At least I hope it's similar, because I watched a bunch of clips and busted my butt trying to figure out how to create the effect. Seriously, did they create and animate the definitive smoke, or what?

Part of me wishes I had given in to my basest instincts and made them a football player, cheerleader and nerd, instead of...whoever these guys are? But dang it, sometimes you just want to draw a fearsome field hockey girl, whether or not you know how big the stick is supposed to be!

Watercolor & digital.

OH MAN so I just finished teaching a class with Jazno Francouer, who was an effects animator at DIsney and had a major hand in said Mulan smoke! Suffice to say I geeked out ALL OVER HIM when we first met.

Also- this is lovely. You make me want to design team of crimefighting/magic/what have you teenagers.

Mmm! Delicious smoke! That sounds wonderful! : ) Also, you clearly should ALREADY be designing a teen team (sucked into a fantasy world, solving mysteries, time travel adventures, hiding a big ol' monster from Mom - you CANNOT go wrong).

This way better than football player, cheerleader, and nerd. Although, the male protagonist is now less interesting than his outside-the-character-box female companions. Part of me wishes the dragon head was slightly visible through cloud holes or tree branches for a little extra intrigue and suspense. I always love your stylish ladies. If you haven't thought of it already, you should totally make some sort of Nancy Drew/adventurer/Jane Austen era character paper doll set. Sell them with quirky short stories, like American Girl dolls, but more awesome.

Paper dolls would be fun to make! Intriguing proposition!! Next time I have an art block I think I'll try sketching some designs for that.

Damn, now I can't stop thinking about this. She's a world traveler (think Rome, Morocco, India, Orient Express), amateur naturalist, hobbyist, and accidental detective. Each set/story incorporates one of your pinterest-esque craft projects or recipes that's somehow worked into the story. Yup. Do it.

I was just thinking the other day how when there's a group of three kids, it's always two guys and one girl. Now I have some beautiful art that says otherwise. (-8 Oh, and I've been admiring the way you do noses for a long time. So cute!

Thank you! : ) I think I want to go bigger with noses. ENORMOUS. I always like that in character designs!
