Artist's Comments

Starting the new year with a little Pride & Prejudice fanart! From left to right, Lizzy, Wickham (the bounder!), Lydia, Kitty, Mary and Jane. I was fighting the good fight against my notions of what they look like based on the glorious BBC adaptation, hence the dark-haired Jane.

I just listened to the audiobook version a few months ago, after having read it, what, nine years ago? :O

I always pictured Jane as more of a blondie myself, but your Liz is perfect. :)

Ohhhh my god, l swear l spent all of Christmas watching Jane Austen movies. Topical! Though, the only one l recognized right off the bat was Lizzie, probably because l've been ruined by the most recent version (with Keira Knightly).
l haven't read the books, so l'm always a bit curious about Mary. She seems sad.

Heh, I enjoy the interaction with Wickham. Cute piece!

Yeah, there's this weird Mary subtext about how she and Mr. Collin would totally go together! Plus somehow I relate to drab, bookish brunettes, go figure. ^^ But Jane Austen told her niece that Mary married a clerk and Kitty married a curate, and they were both in the spheres of life in which they would be most appreciated. So it worked out. : )

I love their slightly plump design. It's very flattering. There not super skinny, corset wearing eye candy. It's more realistic and proportional.
