The Bennett Sisters by lemonflower The Bennett Sisters by lemonflower
Starting the new year with a little Pride & Prejudice fanart! From left to right, Lizzy, Wickham (the bounder!), Lydia, Kitty, Mary and Jane. I was fighting the good fight against my notions of what they look like based on the glorious BBC adaptation, hence the dark-haired Jane.

I actually appreciate the fact that you included Wickham - not for including him per se, but for what he allowed you to do. I love his pose and Lizzie expression. Lydia isn't really paying attention to his wandering husband (?) and that's fitting too. Of course Mary's lost in books (but actually earsdropping on Lydia and Kitty's conversation!) and Jane... daydreaming? She looks kinda lost, lol.
I love tha prints you used for the dress, and the fact that they're not stick figures! I also understant the fight about the looks ("they *don't have to* look like the tv serie...!"), for how much a casting can be appropriate (I love the BBC's) it kinda constrains your imagination a bit, you can't help but see those faces when you read (on in this case, draw) after having seen the movie so many times.

Although, I have a question for you: how comes Darcy and Lizzie are always portrayed with dark hair, Jane blond (well, this is not really: she's said to be the most beautiful, and having blond hair was a classical trait of beauty) and - this really baffles me!! - Bingley with reddish hair?! I mean, I love it, but *why*?!

I'm not sure! For me it's all about the BBC version and I wouldn't be surprised if everyone else who tried to adapt it felt the same way! I guess partly it's making Bingley "milder" or more washed out than Darcy, who obviously has the more forceful personality and is specifically described as being dark - but it's funny how these things happen! And thank you for your sweet words! : )

Haha, it's impossible for me to imagine them looking different than they do in the miniseries, too... But these are adorable :3

Hahahahahaha!! I loooove Lizzy's attitude!! :D Very well done!! I can't recall Lydia and Kitty not fighting, Mary pretending to attend to better business and Jane just humble and delicate, away from the madtempered atmosphere at the Bennet's Hahahaha!! LOVE IT!! :D

They're all so incredibly huggable. Where are our Bennet Sisters plushies? And I love dear Jane. Dark hair is so flattering to her personality.

I love their slightly plump design. It's very flattering. There not super skinny, corset wearing eye candy. It's more realistic and proportional.

Ohhhh my god, l swear l spent all of Christmas watching Jane Austen movies. Topical! Though, the only one l recognized right off the bat was Lizzie, probably because l've been ruined by the most recent version (with Keira Knightly).
l haven't read the books, so l'm always a bit curious about Mary. She seems sad.

Yeah, there's this weird Mary subtext about how she and Mr. Collin would totally go together! Plus somehow I relate to drab, bookish brunettes, go figure. ^^ But Jane Austen told her niece that Mary married a clerk and Kitty married a curate, and they were both in the spheres of life in which they would be most appreciated. So it worked out. : )

l'm glad to hear that Mary didn't wind up a spinster, though l'm sure her sisters would have taken good care of her despite that. Two of them at least have certainly got the room to spare now.

I just listened to the audiobook version a few months ago, after having read it, what, nine years ago? :O

I always pictured Jane as more of a blondie myself, but your Liz is perfect. :)
