A Little Princess

If I were going to do a series of illustrations for A Little Princess, I would handle Sara Crewe differently (and more accurately), but I wanted the out-of-character, out-of-era short hair. This image is based on "The Magic", the chapter where the Indian gentleman starts creating a wonderland for Sara in the attic (Becky, on the other hand, gets Sara's leftovers. Keep it classy, Burnett). I managed to put in about 2/3 of the objects that appear in Sara's room that night. My biggest regret is not having a good space for the little brass kettle. Little brass kettles are ADORABLE.
